Common questions

Where do I find my Readwise access token?

Sign in at readwise.io/access_token and copy the token shown there. The iPhone app links straight to that page.

The watch says to connect on my iPhone, but I already did.

Open Wristwise on the iPhone with the watch nearby and unlocked. The token is sent when the two can talk, and it usually arrives within seconds. If it doesn't, force-quit and reopen the watch app.

Does favoriting on the watch change my Readwise account?

Yes. The heart marks the highlight as a favorite in Readwise, the same as favoriting it in Readwise's own apps. Tap it again to remove the favorite.

Why are some side bars violet and some blue?

Violet marks highlights from your own reading. Blue marks Readwise's recommendations: highlights from supplemental books, and picks from outside your library.

How does my review get marked complete on Readwise?

Readwise can only mark a review complete from a browser that's signed in to Readwise. In the iPhone app, use Sign In to Readwise once. After that, when you finish on the watch, your iPhone marks the review complete for you. If it can't, you'll get a notification that opens the review in Safari, where one tap finishes it.

Why does the watch show yesterday's review?

The new review is fetched in the background early each morning, but watchOS decides exactly when. If it hasn't arrived, open the app and it will load. You can also use Settings → Reload Review.

Which highlights appear, and how many?

The same ones as your Readwise Daily Review. The number and the mix of sources follow your review settings on readwise.io. When you finish, More Highlights adds random ones from your whole library.

How do I disconnect?

In the iPhone app, tap Disconnect. This removes the token from your iPhone and your watch. Sign Out of Readwise removes the web sign-in too.
